Some Words Would Be Helpful Here David…

He doesn’t give shitty jobs (BBC image).
Ricky Gervais, maniacal star and left cerebral hemisphere (along with Stephen Merchant) of The Office and Extras now has his own radio show. The weekly Ricky Gervais Show is hosted by Gervais, Merchant and not-so-straight man Karl Pilkington. If Gervais’s laugh bothers you then you should move right along. But if you loved the TV shows you should enjoy this. Free, even from the need for the ubiquitous iPod (de rigueur, I know), each episode is made available on the Guardian web site as a simple MP3 which can be downloaded and played with any media player.
It remains to be seen how long this free ride will last—or the show itself for that matter!—but it’s a pretty good deal right now. A big thanks to Jefe for putting me on to this.
Favourite line so far?
KP: I could eat a knob at night…
RG: Just cut that there—we’ll loop that—if any DJs are listening, just take that quote, “I could eat a knob at night,” by Karl Pilkington, maybe do a dance remix?
Something to make us all reach for the lasers…
Dead Reckoning » Ricky Gervais Podcast, Series 2
[...] I totally loved the first series of the Ricky Gervais podcast, but when I learned that the Series 2 would only be available for a fee I held back. I don’t have any serious objections to paying for a podcast—I pay for cable tv after all—and you can’t halt progress, blah-de-blah, if anything becomes really popular someone usually finds a way to take your money for it. But what I’d like to know, from anyone who’s listening to Series 2, is whether there are some good reasons why it’s worth coughing up the dough. Now when I’m saying I loved the first series, I’m not kidding—it was laugh out loud central, and I’ve probably listened to all twelve episodes about 3 or 4 times. However, it seemed to me that some of the momentum was wearing off towards the final episodes of Season 1. I got to thinking that maybe, just maybe, the little bald head of Karl Pilkington joke was starting to show signs of wear. I hope I’m wrong, but if you can enlighten me I’d be grateful. Feel free to leave a comment, even if you haven’t heard the new episodes, if you have thoughts on whether it’s worth it. (By the way, I think the cost is something like $US7 per month/4 episodes.)
